The NOACK VOLATILITY TEST determines evaporation loss, means the mass % of volatile oil vapors lost when a specimen is heated in a test crucible. This is an essential part of any lubricating oils specifications including base stock, engine oils, automotive and industrial gear oils, transmission and hydraulic oils. A low Noack score indicates oil that will maintain its original protective and performance qualities for a longer amount of time. These oils perform better under heat, translating to better engine protection, longer oil life, and improved fuel economy.

Smart and intuitive operation at one push button initiation
The operator weighs 65 grams of sample specimen in the test cup, locks the cover on the cup, inserts sample temperature probe and places the cup in the NCK2 5G heating block. A few key strokes and the test is started. The instrument carefully tracks sample temperature and vacuum throughout the test’s duration, providing a digital display of each in real time and recording the values to memory. When the test time is elapsed, the vacuum pump and the heating are automatically stopped. The operator simply disconnects the crucible, removes it from the heating well and places crucible into cooling water bath. After 30min of cooling phase, the crucible cover is removed, the cup with sample is weighed and the evaporation loss calculated.

Powerful precision, versatile testing
The ISL’s patented NCK2 5G heating block does not use Wood’s alloy. A temperature probe measures directly the specimen temperature, allowing for specimen temperature accurate control and highly precise results. The automatic test duration compensation is used because a test may be started with a heating block at room temperature or at hot temperature significantly increasing test productivity as the operator can immediately start a new test after one completed.

Enhanced Safety and Quality Compliance
The NCK2 5G offers ultimate safety in operation and fulfill strict ISO 9000 quality system requirements:
Smart assistance features automatically alert the operator if any test device is not properly set (such as sample probe and/or the crucible). Over-temperature securities, independent for sample and for heating block, include adjustable thermostat-interrupter for heating block accidental overheating protection. In the same time, instrument’s software activates alarm shutting off heating power in case if sample temperature
overpass programmed safe temperature limit (factory set to +10ºC set point).
The calibrations are automatic and time recorded. Calibration frequency is programmable with lock-out control of instrument when the date is overdue. NCK2 5G’s temperature probe is equipped with built-in memory chip storing its calibration values. At plug-in, the smart probe transmits to the instrument its ID and offset values to probe correction table. Moreover, the probe can track records of calibration history.
The crucible cover is engraved with a serial number to meet increasing QS/QA requirements for traceability when several crucibles are used on the same NCK 2 5G. Up to 10 crucible's serial number can be memorized by the instrument.
